Understanding the Gospel Spirit – with the man who wrote the book on it | The Best Samaritan with Jamie Aten and Kent Annan

In 1995 a book was published with a provocative opening: “The scandal of the evangelical spirit is that there is not much of an evangelical spirit.” (Christianity Today would continue to award this book of the year.)
Today on the podcast, the author of this book, eminent evangelical historian Mark Noll, looks back on the last 30 years of the movement before the book was reissued. He talks with Jamie and Kent about the great diversity of the movement, populism and how it permeates Christian politics, and the tension between evangelicalism and science. They also discuss ways for students and young professionals to cultivate a life of the spirit; Mark says “…the ideal Christian is either a thinking activist or an active thinker.”

(Note to listener: In this podcast, sometimes we will have evangelicals, sometimes not. We believe that learning to do good better involves listening to many perspectives, with different ideas and understanding with us. Sometimes, it will be uncomfortable, sometimes we’ll be okay, sometimes not. We think it’s okay. We want to listen to the correction. Especially in our blind spots.)
