NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – A Nashville lawyer specializing in under the influence driving cases was himself charged with impaired driving on Friday.
A Metropolitan Police officer found Richard Dumas Jr. asleep in his car on Nolensville Pike, near the intersection of Winston Avenue. The officer knocked on the car window. However, the affidavit states that Dumas did not wake up.
According to the affidavit, Dumas woke up and left the road when the officer opened the door. The affidavit indicates that Dumas’s vehicle descended into a steep ditch.
The affidavit states that the officer “noticed the strong smell of an alcoholic drink” coming from Dumas, then he vomited. Another officer tried to speak with Dumas, but the affidavit states that “he was unable to stand without falling”. The affidavit goes on to say that Dumas “had difficulty staying awake” and “had difficulty speaking”.
The affidavit states that the officers took Dumas into custody, and it was at this point that he refused a blood test. After that, the officers took him to the night court without incident.
Dumas is a defense and DUI lawyer at the Dumas law firm.
