Attorney Fred Gray, a prominent attorney who was once president of the National Bar Association and the Alabama Bar and once served as Martin Luther King Jr.’s attorney, is still on active duty.
According to BecauseOfThemWeCan, Gray fought for civil rights throughout his career, fighting for the right to vote, the right to an education, the freedom to march peacefully, and the right for black people to serve on juries.

“He has been practicing law for 67 years. He still goes to work 5 days a week. He was Dr. King’s attorney as well as Rosa Parks’ attorney. I hope President Joe Biden awards him the Presidential Medal of freedom. Nobody else has done all they have to do to advance civil rights and social justice in this country.
