Ira Dallas Sumlin, 89, of Meadowood Drive, Lenoir, died on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Hickory Falls Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 4, 1932 in Caldwell County to the late Collis and Vergie Coffey Sumlin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Paul Sumlin; three brothers, Tracey Sumlin, Monroe Sumlin and Roy Sumlin; and a sister, Vergie Arnette.
Mr. Sumlin retired as warehouse manager for Newton Transportation and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Ethel Foster Sumlin of the house; one daughter, Betty S. Norman and her husband Ralph Gene of Lenoir; one sister, Mildred Wright of Hudson; three grandchildren, Hope Coffey, Rebekah White and Katie Richards; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, under the direction of Rev. Dr. Alan Carr. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be required.
The family would like to sincerely thank all of the caregivers who showed love and care to Mr. Sumlin.
