I received many sweet messages from Aisha fans
Cyrus Sahukar stars in Sony’s upcoming family drama-comedy LIV Potluck, which has an ensemble cast with Jatin Sial, Kitu Gidwani, Shikha Talsania, Harman Singha, Saloni Khanna and Siddhant Karnick in the lead roles. The show chronicles the life of the dysfunctional but healthy Shastri family, who reunited after the Patriarch suffered a heart attack. However, there is more to it than it looks, and parents keep their kids a big secret.
In a conversation with News18, Cyrus opened up about the show’s interesting premise, what his character brings to the table, and his experience reuniting with Ira Dubey after 2010 cult favorite Aisha.
Speaking of coming on board for Potluck, he said, “It’s one of those stories that doesn’t have a mega plot. Dramas are interesting because they are a slice of life, a part of our existence. There are too many shows where a giant storm comes in and random people die. And then there are other shows that are based on life, and everyday events. It’s one of those shows, following the daily ins and outs of the Shastri family. “
He added, “I thought it would be fun to work with these people. I had worked with Ira Dubey before and thought it would be great to work with her again. We shot during the pandemic in a bio-bubble in Delhi. I think it helped the actors get to know each other better. In the last year, I’ve shot two shows in a bio-bubble. I have to say it’s a whole different vibe, but you really bond as a cast. My choice was basically, “Hey, they sound like funny people and that sounds like a funny script. ” So why not.'”
Speaking about his character on the show, the actor added, “I play Vikrant, who is the eldest son of Kitu Gidwani and Jatin Sial. He’s a person who knows exactly what he wants, it’s just that what he wants doesn’t always go well for his father. His father is more of a straightforward businessman, who has spent his entire life doing what he has done. Vikrant wanted to do things a little differently. He wanted not to find a job and invest in a start-up. When the start-up started to do well, he chose not to expand his business because he had twins and wanted to spend time with them because he felt that his father was not there for him. So the thing with Vikrant is that he was never the legendary son that his father wanted him to be. So he is a human being who always subtly fights for his individuality.
“The constant struggle is not to disappoint anyone, but it’s not that he cares too much either. I found this role very interesting because if he is what he is, he is also the go-to person when parents fight. I think it’s a nice role reversal when, as the elder, he becomes a parent for the parent. ”
One of the show’s most exciting facts for fans is that Cyrus and Ira also play a couple in Potluck. In Sonam Kapoor-starrer Aisha, Cyrus and Ira had played Randhir and Pinky, two very unlikely people who end up falling in love. Speaking of their dynamics, he said, “Ira recently posted an article and very nicely got a lot of posts from a lot of people around. Randhir Gambhir and Pinky Bose were a couple that people were very fond of. It was a lot of fun working with Ira again, under completely different circumstances and in a completely different scenario. So I hope people like it, I hope they like it. “
Cyrus also reviewed his career in television, movies and web shows. “I really enjoyed each of them and it’s very rare to get really employed in all of these mediums. Sometimes that is difficult because they are actually opposed in some respect. As a host, everything revolves around you. And often it’s also about being stronger and stronger because you’re an individual running a show. As an actor you have a completely different setup, you have to play a character. I really appreciate them all. Honestly, if you get into an art form, you can spend your whole life discovering one. So at some level you are still a student who has to keep practicing the art. You just have to pray that you continue to have opportunities where you have opportunities where you can play different versions of things and do more, “he said.
Potluck airing on SonyLIV from September 10, 2021.
