Ensuring a continuous supply of food deliveries during lockdown: DGP
Hyderabad: A day after public backlash for unwarranted police action against e-commerce home deliveries, Police Director General Telangana M Mahender Reddy on Sunday ordered the heads of the three police commissioners to ensure a continuous supply of the products essentials, including food deliveries.
After the chief minister criticized the failure to implement the lockdown in the true spirit of GHMC, state police officials on Saturday stepped up enforcement of the lockdown and, during the campaign, halted dozens of delivery people.
Home food delivery services such as Swiggy and Zomato were badly affected by the sudden police action on Saturday, delivery drivers’ vehicles were detained until evening and later were penalized by challans. “What these Challans issued by the three commissionaires and the seizure of the vehicles, there is no clarity as to the withdrawal of the cases,” said Khaja Aijazuddin, a practicing lawyer based in the city.
The general public and political leaders, via social media platforms, have expressed their anger at the police by posting messages and videos. ”
In the wake of incessant complaints against the police, IT Minister KT Rama Rao discussed and ordered DGP Telangana to resolve the issue of e-commerce deliveries and ensure the supply of basic necessities.
On Sunday, the DGP held a review meeting with the police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda, ordering them to ensure the continued supply of essentials, including food deliveries.
