Bochum and Furth deliver direct promotion, Kiel face Cologne in Bundesliga play-offs – Xinhua

BERLIN, May 23 (Xinhua) – Bochum won the Bundesliga Second Division title with a 3-1 victory over Sandhausen and a direct promotion with second-placed Greuther Furth, while Holstein Kiel will face Cologne in the play-offs after the last. round on Sunday.
Bochum started from pole position before the last lap and opened the scoring against Sandhausen by Milos Pantovic in the 29th minute.
The host’s lead lasted until the 60th minute when Sandhausen’s Kevin Behrens restored parity.
Bochum remained unimpressed and gained the upper hand in the finals after goals from Anthony Losilla and Robert Zulj paved the way for a first place finish.
With the result, the second division champions return to the German top flight after an 11-year absence.
Second-placed Greuther Furth follows Bochum in the first division as the Clover Leaves outscored Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-2 despite a shorthanded penalty.
It didn’t start well for Furth, as Kristoffer Peterson broke the deadlock for Düsseldorf in the 26th minute before Furth’s Anton Stach received his foul play marching orders before half-time.
After the restart, Branimir Hrgota tied the scores after a handball penalty to give some hope, but it was a short-lived joy for the hosts as Shinta Appelkamp’s goal restored the lead from one goal to the next. Düsseldorf with 56 minutes played.
Furth started an assault and rallied after goals from Julian Green and Dickson Abiama rounded off all three points for direct promotion.
The top two places allow Greuther Furth to return to the Bundesliga Premier League for the first time since 2013.
Holstein Kiel wasted his chance for direct promotion after losing to Darmstadt 3-2 and dropping from second to third in the final round.
